What is Bowls of Happiness?

Bowls of Happiness is a Ramadhan fundraising initiative organised by the Global Community Service (GLOCOSE) Project under University of Malaya’s 9th Residential College. Our aim is to raise funds in collaboration with Refuge for The Refugees (RFTR), specifically for their Food Aid Programme.

The Food Aid Programme is an initiative to support a total of 3500 families consisting of migrants, refugees, and B40 families. As it has been more than a year since the pandemic started, many families with very young children are still struggling, and the most vulnerable among us have been hit the hardest.

It’s extremely heartbreaking to see so many others in such difficult situations simply because they aren’t as privileged as many of us are. We believe that with your contributions, not only can we support these families, but also step closer towards a world filled with more kindness and compassion.

Kind hearts, happy tummies. All it takes is just RM60 to feed a family of 4 for 2 weeks! :)

Who is Refuge for The Refugees?

Refuge For The Refugees (RFTR) is a one stop centre that looks into advocating for the rights of refugees in Malaysia. From policy and advocacy work, all the way down to case management, individual support and providing educational programmes.

Now in their 8th year, Refuge For The Refugees supports and empowers 35 refugee schools and 2 halfway homes across Myanmar and Malaysia, ensuring and fighting for quality education for all.

With the MCO in place, since the 31st of March, RFTR has been working alongside several partner organizations to provide grocery aid to the most vulnerable communities - the refugees, migrants and the local B40 communities. Ever since then, they have fed 12,000 families, consisting of 80,000 beneficiaries.

Who Are We?

Pioneering in 2014, the Global Community Service (GLOCOSE) Project is a UM volunteering project that takes place in different locations across Southeast Asia every year.

In light of the pandemic and rise of social issues, we have transitioned into a fully virtual project and our aim this year is to increase awareness whilst initiating Call-To-Action regarding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
